Come fly with us at Oswego County Airport (FZY) in Fulton, NY.
About the Club
The club started many years ago when the founder Joe Whitford and his passion for flying his Piper J3. Joe along with friends in the aviation world formed the Whitford Flying Club, which was later renamed to Joe Whitford Inc. Though the name is different, we are still the same aviation enthusiast at heart, providing safe, inexpensive and fun flying experience to all aviation enthusiasts.
The Plane
The club’s fleet of planes consist of a PIPER J3C-65 (Tail # 98355 ) leading the way. The Piper brings back the feeling of stick and rudder to the Cockpit.
The aircraft has conventional landing gear and give the pilot and passenger the basics of flight sensation that we all fell in love with. It runs on 80LL fuel and burns around 4.5 gallons per hour.
Learn to Fly Today – Student Pilots
Joe wanted everyone to feel the enjoyment of flying and we stay true to this today by having certified instructors willing to work with students to earn their wings. From ground school to flight instruction the club trains students into safe and skilled pilots. The instructors help students achieve a pilot certificate.
An advantage to flying in the club is the aircraft provide a relatively low cost way to log hours towards a pilot certificate. With as few as 20 hours and some ground work you can be a safe, certified pilot. All that is needed to get started is a drivers license.
The club currently has two certified instructors that are current in both aircrafts. They are only a phone call away to help you either become a pilot, get a refresher or simply just go flying.
Join Today
The annual membership of the club is $80.00 dollars with a one time $45.00 background search upon joining. To rent the plane out of the Oswego Hanger is $70 wet per hour. Just deduct your fuel and or oil receipts when sending in payments.
Club members use this site for scheduling the aircraft and keeping track of hours. There is also a written register log in the aircraft to track the actual time recorded on the meter. Plane billing works on a monthly basis. The time is accumulated on tach-time. Rarely is there an instance where the planes are booked when you plan on flying.
The club is organized with board members and has regular meetings throughout the year. We discuss how to make the club a safe, fun and a strong aviation club serving central New York. We welcome all members and non-member to the meetings to share a voice.
All Club planes have insurance on them that covers you as well as others, however it is a good idea to look into renters insurance if you feel you need more.
